Pure tone audiometry (PTA) establishes your hearing thresholds across the key speech frequencies (125Hz–8kHz), plotted on an audiogram to measure your hearing against normal levels and determine the type and degree of any loss.

The test battery identifies conductive, sensorineural or mixed hearing loss. Conductive loss relates to a fault in the mechanical transport of sound to the inner ear; sensorineural loss is a permanent loss affecting the inner ear, most commonly age-related; mixed loss combines both.
